“சென்னை மாநகரின் குடிநீர் தேவையை நிறைவு செய்யும் வகையில், குடிநீர் ஆதாரங்களை மேம்படுத்தும் முக்கிய பணிகளுக்கு இந்த அரசு முன்னுரிமை அளிக்கிறது. 330 கோடி ரூபாய் திட்ட மதிப்பீட்டில், ஒரு டி.எம்.சி. அடி கொள்ளளவு கொண்ட புதிய ஏரி ஒன்றை திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டம் தேர்வாய்கண்டிகையில் உருவாக்குவதற்கான ஆரம்பகட்டப் பணிகள் துவக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்தப் பணிகள் 2014 ஆம் ஆண்டில் முடிவுறும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. இது தவிர, திருக்கண்டலத்தில், புதிய நீர்நிலை அமைக்கும் பணிகள் 2012-2013 ஆம் ஆண்டில் தொடங்கப்படும். நேமம், போரூர், அயனம்பாக்கம் ஏரிகள் மறுசீரமைக்கும் பணி, சோழவரம் ஏரியினை ஆழப்படுத்தும் பணி, ஆகிய நீர் சேமிப்பு அளவை அதிகரிக்கும் பணிகள் 130 கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பீட்டில் செயலாக்கத்தில் உள்ளன. சென்னை நகரின் விரிவாக்கப்பட்ட பகுதிகளில் குடிநீர் தேவையை நிறைவு செய்ய திருவொற்றியூர், மதுரவாயல், அம்பத்தூர், உள்ளகரம்-புழுதிவாக்கம், நெற்குன்றம், ஆலந்தூர், போரூர் பகுதிகளில் குடிநீர் திட்டப்பணிகள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன.”
