“நமது நாட்டிலேயே மிக அதிக அளவிலான புதுப்பிக்கத்தக்க மின்சக்தி உற்பத்தித் திறன் தமிழகத்தில்தான் உள்ளது. மாநிலத்தின் மொத்த மின் நுகர்வில் 12.6 சதவீதம் காற்றாலை உற்பத்தியிலிருந்து மட்டுமே கிடைக்கப்பெறுகிறது. மேலும், கூட்டுறவுச் சர்க்கரை ஆலைகளில் உள்ள கரும்பு அரவைக் கழிவிலிருந்து 183 மெகாவாட் மின் உற்பத்தி செய்வதற்கான முன்னோடித் திட்டங்களைத் தமிழகம் மேற்கொண்டுள்ளது. இத்திட்டங்கள் 2013-2014 ஆம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து செயல்படத் தொடங்கும். இந்த நிதியாண்டில், இந்த மின் உற்பத்தித் திட்டங்களைச் செயல்படுத்த பல்வேறு சர்க்கரை ஆலைகளுக்கு குறுகிய காலக் கடனாக 352 கோடி ரூபாய் வழங்க அரசு ஒப்புதல் அளித்துள்ளது.”
